Not My Small Diary

I got a surprise complimentary copy of Not My Small Diary #13 in the mail yesterday. It's the first thing I've contributed to that I haven't printed myself!

Central Park Zoo

Some sketches from the NYC sketchcrawl yesterday. I haven't drawn from life in a few weeks, so these came out pretty well. We had 6 sketchers total and 3 newbies despite the cold. Thanks for coming out everyone!

Sketchcrawl NYC Saturday Dec 9th!

Sorry to post this last minute, but please join us for Sketchcrawl NYC tomorrow! We'll be meeting at 11 am at the Central Park Zoo. (main gate at 64th st and 5th ave.) Admission is $8. We can draw outside until we're freezing and warm up with the penguins and tropical birds!

The zoo closes at 4:30 so from there we may head to the Met museum or maybe a cafe to draw. We'll also grab lunch at some point. Remember to post your sketches from the day at the sketchcrawl forum.

See you sketching!

P.S. There's also a group meeting at 9 am at Bryant Park if you're an early bird!

comic wedding

Last weekend I attended the wedding of my comic friends Raina and Dave. They had asked their artistic friends to contribute to a comic as their wedding favor. I felt weird showing this before their wedding, but here's what I drew for them. They are just about the cutest couple in comics...no wait, there's too many cute comic couples to judge from!

I'm baaack

Good heavens! No, I haven't fallen off the earth, I've merely moved to another borough and haven't had an internet connection for two weeks! I'm busy finishing up some inks for a comic anthology which I will post shortly.

In the meantime, here's a photo I took last week of Tom Sito at B&N promoting his book on the animation unions "Drawing the Line." I'm only on chapter 5, but anyone involved in animation should check this book out.

World War 1 Flying Ace

Nothing says Halloween like "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown." The quality of the limited animation in that holiday special still astounds me.

Also, zombies in PA.

Animation happenings this week include ASIFA East's free screening Tuesday night of the British Animation Awards reel at SVA at 7 pm (209 East 23rd St amphitheatre).
On Friday November 3 at the BAM Cinema there is a screening of Czech stop-motion master Jan Svankmajer's "Lunacy" including a Q&A with the filmmaker.

Ghost

Who says ghosts can't be sexy? This was for Illustration Friday, but blogger was being weird when I tried to upload it last week.

central park waterfall

I met up with Cynthea and we painted in Central Park yesterday. Considering I haven't watercolored in a while, I was pretty happy with this.

National Gallery in Ottawa

Well, I'm back and this is the only sketch I'm going to post from my trip. I've got extensive coverage of the first 3 days of the festival on my livejournal if you want to see photos and which films I liked.

Farm

Illustration Friday: Farm

I got a lot of free sweet corn leftovers from a family picnic this weekend. I LOVE fresh sweetcorn! It used to be the kids jobs to take the corn out of the paper bag and shuck it in my nana's back yard. I was so proud when I was finally strong enough to break the end of the stalk off!

Busy!

This is a bit of a preview for a comic idea I'm working on for a Friends of Lulu comic anthology. It's been put on the back burner for a week or 2 as I'm also trying to get a comic submission together for the Not My Small Diary #13 deadline. I'm going to the Ottawa Animation Festival next week and pulling my portfolio together before then. Not to mention trying to get into an animation gallery show. So I've got a whole lot on my plate at the moment.

Traveling Dime Museum

Last night I went to the Cirus Contraption Traveling Dime Museum downtown. It was pretty awesome and a bit creepy for feeling like you've been transported to an old-timey sideshow. The cast was incredibly multi-talented and fascinating. I did this as a gift for my friend Gina's birthday, inspired by the performance last night.

Summers past...

Today I realized that I miss my hour commute into the city when I'm working from home. So I had a sketch frenzy on the train and here are 2 pages of what came out of my pen.

Back from Boston

Did a lot of sketches in my new mini-Moleskine. Here is a highway sketch from my trip to Siggraph Boston. On Monday Allan and I found a great little tea shop called Tealuxe in Harvard Square and drew for a bit there.
