Happy Holidays!

It's been a while since I posted any personal work here, so last weekend I spent some time making this little Christmas GIF. In other news, I'm celebrating almost a year as an animator at BrainPOP and have been enjoying making educational movies for the youth of tomorrow on topics as varied as Concussions, Mammals, Nicholas Copernicus, and The Texas Revolution. Hope everyone has a nice holiday season!

(I didn't want to send a misleading message with the 3 stockings, so I put our initials on them and was tickled that they basically spell Appa like the flying bison from The Last Airbender series. Nerd.)

I'll be at MICE this weekend!

Hello friends, it's been a while. My last scheduled convention of the year is MICE this coming weekend October 29th and 30th in Cambridge, Ma.

Lesley University Hall
1815 Massachusetts Ave.
near the Porter Square T stop

Saturday 10am-6pm
Sunday 11am-5pm

My table is D5 in Doucet Hall right near the entrance. I will have Urban Nomad issues 1-5, The Collected Counter Attack! hardcovers, Cooking Up Comics recipe samplers, cat stickers and buttons. Come say hi and buy some comics from all the cool people. It's free to get into the show!

As far as other things going on, this is the first year I've done Inktober and you can see all of my sketches over on my Instagram. I've been working full time as an animator at BrainPOP since the beginning of the year and was delighted to be part of a virtual school visit with kids across the country for BrainPOP JR last week.

July is International Zine Month!

I realize things have been quiet here on the blog, so hello! July is International Zine Month. If you don't know what a zine is, here is a definition according to good ol' Wikipedia:

zine (/ˈziːn/ ZEEN; an abbreviation of fanzine or magazine) is most commonly a small circulation self-published work of original or appropriated texts and images usually reproduced via photocopier.

I will once again be tabling at Pete's Mini Zine Fest. PMZF will be held Saturday July 25th from 2 pm to 7 pm at Pete's Candy Store (709 Lorimer St.) in Brooklyn, NY. The flyer for this years' event was created by Joseph Carlough and Katie Haegele. Come drink a beer and buy some zines!

If you're in NY, you can always stop by Bluestockings Bookshop at 172 Allen St. which has a great selection of self-published comics and zines. I just dropped off a fresh batch of Cooking Up Comics samplers last week and took a photo of their display for zine month which includes Urban Nomad!

In other zine news, I caught up with one of my former professors at Kutztown University at MoCCA back in April. A celebrated illustrator himself, Kevin McCloskey included my work in his donation to the brand new KU zine library. Thanks, Kevin!

Hourly Comic Day 2016

I almost completely forgot about Hourly Comic Day this year. I've been doing them annually since 2009 and decided I should draw them even if I remembered late in the day. I started a new full time animation job a few weeks ago, so I've been a bit distracted from my personal work. BUT it's great to have a paycheck I can count on and friendly co-workers. These were drawn with pen in my little 3.5 x 5.5 hand book sketchbook. Click the images to see them larger and enjoy a jumbled look at my day on February 1st:
