Brief intermission from the journal comic. In addition to attending the NY Comic Book Marketplace yesterday I ended up doing a little Sketchcrawl while sitting at our table since I wasn't able to join the official group. So many great subjects to draw! It was great to meet some new artists and fans yesterday! Back tomorrow with another journal comic installment.
Just a reminder that Allan and I will be in the Artists Alley at the New York Comicbook Marketplace this Saturday from 10:30 am to 7 pm at 401 7th Ave (corner of 33rd St, across from Penn Station). If you're in the area, come by and say hello!
My 7 year old niece actually inked the sideways panel. I drew it in pencil and she used my Pentel brushpen and 2 colored markers to finish it. There's some of her awesome art in my photos.

I ended up doing hourly comics for the duration of my trip to Arizona. Here's day one. Click each image to make them more readable. I'll be posting them Monday, Wednesday, Friday until they're all up! It's been a while since I've drawn in a sketchbook with rings and I couldn't adjust the scans so the tops of the image were any clearer, sorry!
In celebration of Valentine's Day and the year of the Tiger, here's the card I made for my sweetie. Watercolor and Sharpie marker on Vellum Bristol Board.
A few months ago, I was interviewed at King Con by William Wrigley and Lisanne McTernan for a class on visual cultures. And guess what? Parts of my interview made it into the final cut! I'm only moderately awkward, and the best part (in my opinion) is the footage of the ABC No Rio zine archive.
(Note: Some of the content may not be appropriate for children under 13)
Also, you should come out this Saturday to the awesome Brooklyn comic shop Rocketship from 4-6 pm for a book release party for Raina Telgemeier's "Smile"!
My brother's birthday was last Thursday and I made him this card. Allan and I were out in Arizona to celebrate with him and the family.
This was a new technique I was trying out: Sharpie marker on Bristol board with watercolor washes. I'm happy with how it turned out and will hopefully be using a similar style with a project that's in the works.
Here are my hourlies from February 1st! I've actually been keeping an hourly journal of my Arizona vacation for about a week. Once I'm back I'll have them all scanned and cleaned up a bit, but for now, here's Monday:
